As everyone prepares for NCAA March Madness, the Philadelphia area high
school basketball scene got into high gear the weekend of Feb. 23rd with 8
District 1 Championships decided.

4th Quarter of Chester vs. Norristown
*The game was originally scheduled for TV before the snow cancellations,
so we decided to give the fans at least the 4th quarter to watch
Saturday, February 23rd Results:
A Girls: (4) Sacred Heart 36 (2) Girard College 28
This game was close, but Girard had too many turnovers (32 to Sacred
Heart's 10) to overcome a Sacred Heart team that looked loose the whole
game.

AA Girls: (4) St. Pius 60 (2) Delco Christian 37
St. Pius played extremely well here, maintaining a fast tempo to outrun
Delco Christian after trailing headed into the second quarter (12-10)

AA Boys: (3) Christopher Dock 51 (1) Lower Moreland 66
Up 24-20 headed into the third quarter, Lower Moreland opened up the
second half with an 11-2 run that created enough separation to keep
Christopher Dock at bay for the rest of the game.

AAA Girls: (2) Villa Maria 49 (1) Mount St. Joseph 34
Villa Maria got off to a blazing 14-2 start and never looked back,
although Mount St. Joseph contended better in the second half.

AAA Boys: (3) Great Valley 50 (1) Pottstown 51
In what was undoubtedly the game of the night, Pottstown holds on to
win by 1 after Great Valley's Zach Oas, who had a great game with 10
points and 10 rebounds, was unable to make the second of 2 free throws
with .3 seconds left.

Sunday, February 24th:
AAAA Girls: (2) Methacton 39 (1) Downingtown East 41
A
very competitive game came down to the wire as Downingtown East's
Meghan Kerrigan made 1 of 2 free throws with .2 seconds left to give
her team the 2 point winning edge.

AAAA Boys: (2) Norristown 47 (1) Chester 61
Norristown
came out fighting, but Chester proved to be too much in the long run as
the Clippers pulled out the 14 point victory.

Monday, February 25th:
A Boys (at Wissahicken): (2) Girard College 61 (1) Faith Christian 60
Girard wins in overtime to claim their second consecutive Single A championship.
