Drama? Check. Intensity? Check. Game tying, buzzer beater 3? Check. Worth the price of admission? You better believe it.
It was more than just the game of the year out of those we covered. It was a race to the finish line, with the District 1 AAA title awaiting the team to finish first. The Phoenixville Phantoms came in as the favorite against the surprising Strath Haven Panthers. No one told that to Haven senior guard Calvin Newell, who added to his point-tastic season by notching 33 points. The biggest basket of his came near the end of regulation, an improbable three point shot that tied the game and sent it to overtime.
But Phoenixville was not to be outdone in this one. Led by senior center Greg Peters' 21 points, and an inspired effort by senior guard Yusuf Brown that included hitting the game-clinching free throws in OT, Phoenixville pulled out the victory to claim the District 1 AAA championship.
