We've had the pleasure of catching Imhotep do some amazing things the past couple of years. After last year's great double overtime victory over Pittsburgh's North Catholic to win the State title, Imhotep came into this year with a host of juniors on the roster, and are currently running in the State Playoffs with 5 juniors as starters. In such a case, more weight is put onto the head coach's shoulders. He needs to guide the team just a bit more than usual, know when to get on them for mistakes, and know when to let the players learn and grow on their own. As we watched Imhotep this year win the Public League and District 12 titles, we thought that Noble did a great job of handling the team in those aspects.
We write this before 25-5 Imhotep takes on a very tough Strawberry Mansion team (whom we unfortunately did not get a chance to cover this year). It's going to be a challenge, but win or lose, Noble can know that he tapped into the talent of this team very well, and put his players in the best position to succeed. And since most of the team will be back next year, Imhotep still has a lot of miles left in the tank.
For his efforts this year, Imhotep Charter coach Andre Noble is the Varsity 365 2010 Basketball Coach of the Year.
