2010 Basketball Game of the Year:
Phila. E&T vs. Carver E&S (1/21/10)

Small gym. Big Hearts.

Watch highlights of this game here

If you've ever been to George Washington Carver Engineering & Science's gym, you'll know that it is small, holding somewhere between 100-200 people (we're not that great with crowd estimates). What you may not have known, however, is that the venue gets loud very fast, and the atmosphere rivals - and surpasses - some of the bigger gyms in the area. And when Carver E&S took on Philadelphia Electrical and Technology Charter in a January Public League contest, the atmosphere was, to say the least, intense.

Both teams showed a lot of heart and a lot of grit in this one, a game that came down to the last possession. E&T junior guard Devante Chance was the stand-out, rebounding from a quiet first half to finish the game with 23 points.

As the game came down to the final minutes, the fans in attendance showed their passion and support for the players by jumping out of their seats and yelling - loud. The players responded by stepping up their energy. There were plenty of struggles for possession and dives to the floor. In the end, E&T came out on top 63-60 in a game that was truly the hardest-fought contest we saw this year.

For the intense action, close finish, and great heart shown by both teams, the Carver E&S vs. Phila. E&T matchup earns our 2010 Game of the Year honors.
