*Awarded to a moment that is a true example
of leaving it all on the court*

Prep Charter's John Longo gets the team and crowd pumped
(See Video - play from 2:36-2:46 mark)

Moments like these are why we love high school sports.

A lot is put into the outcomes of high school sports games, and rightfully so. League champions need to be crowned. State champions need to be recognized. But unfortunately, sometimes we think so much about wins and losses that we forget about the effort the kids put into the game. Maybe this moment was one of those times - but not anymore.

Prep Charter lost this game to Imhotep, 51-49. But we decided that we're not going to let that outcome take away from one of the most energized displays of emotion we've ever seen. Prep Charter's John Longo, who had been making a string of plays with and without the ball at the time, made a steal and converted it into a layup. Leading up to this play, he had been showing more and more emotion on the court. After this layup, he let absolutely everything out and pumped his fists, signaling that he came to play and so did Prep Charter. The fans loved it. The players loved it. And as you can tell, we loved it too.

For leaving no doubt that he was leaving it all on the court that day, Prep Charter's John Longo wins the 2010 Play Hard Moment of the Year Award.

Runner up:

Roman Catholic's Rakeem Brookins refuse to lose against the Prep
Watch video - especially 2:10 to 2:18 mark

-
as we commented in our February Star of the Month article, Roman Catholic's Rakeem Brookins turned it on in the second half of the Valentine's Day matchup against St. Joe's Prep. He did it not only because someone had to for Roman Catholic to stay in the game, but because he was "feeling" it. And you can really tell he was in the zone by the expression on his face as he fearlessly took shot after shot - and made them. All of this led to him making a tough game-deciding layup late in the game for a Play Hard performance if we ever saw one.
