Varsity 365 2009 Player of the Year:
When we decided to pick an area high school football player to be our "cover" athlete for our Fall season flyers (you know, those things we passed out that looked like Madden covers), we had to choose between some good athletes and some really cool pictures we had of them. When we looked at Drew Loughery's picture that we had on file, and thought about what he brought to the table last year and what he could bring to the table this year, we knew we had our guy. And Drew delivered. Completing 61% of his passes, he threw for almost 2300 yards and 23 touchdowns. He led Lasalle to a 13-1 record, their second consecutive Quad-A Catholic League title, the Philadelphia City Title, and they will be the Eastern representative in the State championship this weekend. This certainly wasn't an easy choice (these things never are). As you will see, our runner-ups had fantastic seasons as well. But when you consider the stats, the performances in big games, the impact on the team overall, and the success on the field, we felt Loughery had the edge over the runner ups. Because of that, Drew Loughery is the Varsity 365 2009 Player of the Year.
