Varsity 365 Showstopper:
Ryann Krais of Methacton Track and Field

Headed to UCLA.  More awards than we can count.  School records.  State records.  Yep, she's good.

Ryann Krais of Methacton has had an incredible high school career and has earned the accolades and praise of many athletes and media folk.  But perhaps the best quality she possesses has nothing to do with her athleticism.  Rather, it's her humble demeanor, mental toughness, and determination to keep improving that truly separates her from the rest of the pack.  And with a resume like that, it was only a matter of time before she became a Varsity 365 Showstopper.

Varsity 365 caught up with Ryann after the PA Track Classic on 3/29/08.

V365: You've had a great career, and you're getting a lot of media attention.  How does a high school student go about handling that attention and still doing the things a high school student is supposed to do?
RK: My parents, my coaches and my teammates definitely keep me in check.  I have a lot of people looking out for me to do the right thing at the right time.  So it's been easy with all the help.

V365:  What is the toughest part of going from the indoor season to the outdoor season?
RK: It's difficult to see your times drop for a little because of the weather and other stuff.  That's always hard on you mentally. But besides that, I love outdoor so much more than indoor.  It's just nice to be outside again.

V365:  How do you find the motivation to keep getting better?
RK: There's always somebody out there that is better.  You just want to get closer and closer, and once you finally pass her, everyone else is [now] coming after you.

V365: What did you want to work on as the season progresses?
RK: I would really like to do well in the 300 hurdles.  Hopefully, I'll have a good race at the Penn Relays in the 400 hurdles.  Our relay team is looking pretty good right now, too; it would be nice to see them take it all the way.

V365: What advice would you give to a freshman running track and field if they want to be successful?
RK: You come in freshman year and you do track because you love it.  You want to keep that [love] as long as you can, because the second you lose that, you start dropping.

Thanks Ryann.  Congrats on your great performance at the PA Track Classic and good luck!
