January Star of the Month We like clutch performances. Points are good, as are rebounds, and everyone loves assists. But even more important than gathering these stats are the timing of getting them. Getting a block in the middle of the second quarter is cool. Getting a block to force an overtime and save your team from losing? Let's just say that's pretty big. Malvern Prep's DeQuann Walker had good timing in a tight contest against Inter-Ac foe Germantown Academy on January 9th, 2010. With seconds to go in the game, Germantown Academy's Cameron Ayers had a breakaway layup opportunity that would have put GA ahead by 2. Walker hustled down the court and blocked the layup from behind, forcing overtime. The block was a bit controversial; there has been debate whether it was a clean block and whether Walker fouled Ayers or not. Nonetheless, the block counted and you have to at least give Walker credit for getting down the court in time to make a play. A game saving block is big, but to earn Star of the Month honors, with all of the great athletic talent that we cover, it takes more than just one play. Walker had a great game, scoring 25 points and grabbing 9 rebounds. Most importantly, he scored 7 key points in overtime, where Malvern Prep managed to pull away a 75-72 victory. *This also makes Walker eligible for our
